SEO & AI Discoverability Audit

Shalvey Bros. Landscape Inc. -- shalveybroslandscape.com

Prepared March 2026 | Lesli Rose -- Digital Strategy
1

OverviewExecutive Summary

Shalvey Bros. Landscape is a respected, 40+ year family-owned landscaping company serving Rhode Island and southeastern New England. The brand has strong real-world reputation, certifications (Unilock Authorized Contractor, Stoneyard Certified Mason), a "This Old House" feature, and a team of 50+ employees.

The problem: The website does not reflect the authority of the business. Search engines and AI systems cannot properly understand, categorize, or recommend Shalvey Bros. because critical structured data, content depth, and technical foundations are missing.

Critical Finding #1

No LocalBusiness schema. For a local service company, this is the single most impactful SEO gap. Google cannot properly connect the website to the Google Business Profile, service area, phone number, or business hours.

Critical Finding #2

Zero content marketing. No blog, no educational content, no seasonal guides. The site has 43 URLs total. Competitors are publishing regularly and capturing organic traffic Shalvey Bros. is missing.

Critical Finding #3

No service area pages. They serve all of Rhode Island but have no city-specific landing pages. Every competitor ranking for "landscaping [city] RI" has dedicated pages.

Critical Finding #4

Outdated analytics. Still running Universal Analytics (UA-134916427-1), which Google sunset in July 2023. They have been collecting no analytics data for nearly 3 years.

Overall SEO Health Score

32
32 / 100 -- Needs Significant Work
Strong brand equity offline, but the website is not translating that authority to search engines or AI platforms.

Content StrategyContent Pillar Analysis

Content pillars are the keyword themes that should drive the entire site structure, blog calendar, and service area pages. Currently, all six pillars are weak or missing entirely.

Pillar 1: Landscape Design Rhode Island

Status: Thin -- One service page exists with under 500 words. No supporting content.

Pillar 2: Landscape Construction

Status: Thin -- Service page exists but lacks depth. No subpages for hardscape, retaining walls, etc.

Pillar 3: Service Area Pages (City-Specific)

Status: Missing -- Zero city-specific pages. This is the biggest content gap.

Pillar 4: Commercial Services

Status: Thin -- Commercial snow page exists but needs expansion. No HOA or commercial-specific landing pages.

Pillar 5: Seasonal Content

Status: Missing -- No blog means no seasonal content at all.

Pillar 6: Hardscaping & Specialty

Status: Missing -- No dedicated pages for specific hardscaping services or Unilock/Stoneyard certifications.

5

Structured DataSchema Markup Package

This is the most impactful single change for the site. The LocalBusiness schema tells Google exactly what this business is, where it operates, when it is open, and how to contact it. Without it, Google is guessing.

Why Allow AI Bots?

For a local service business, being included in AI-generated answers is valuable. When someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google AI "Who is the best landscaper in Warwick RI?", Shalvey Bros. should appear. Blocking AI bots would prevent this.

Strategy: Allow all major AI crawlers. The site has no proprietary content that needs protecting -- the goal is maximum visibility.

Currently, when someone shares a Shalvey Bros. page on Facebook, LinkedIn, or in a text message, there is no preview image, title, or description. Open Graph tags fix this. Yoast SEO can generate these if configured properly.

Key Takeaway

Shalvey Bros. has significantly stronger real-world credentials than its competitors. The problem is entirely digital -- the website does not communicate this authority to search engines or AI systems. The brand is winning offline but losing online.

Other Rhode Island Competitors to Watch

D'Urso Landscaping

Late 1970s, two generations. Similar longevity positioning. Check their schema and content.

Angelo Santucci Inc.

Since 1960, 50+ years. Even longer than Shalvey Bros. Review how they leverage history online.

Greenskeeper Inc.

Since 1988. Strong local presence. Monitor their content and local SEO approach.

Data Emergency

The site is still running Universal Analytics (UA-134916427-1), which Google stopped processing data for in July 2023. That means Shalvey Bros. has had no website analytics for nearly 3 years. No visitor data, no conversion tracking, no traffic source information. This must be fixed immediately.

  2. Set up a Web data stream for shalveybroslandscape.com
  3. Copy the Measurement ID (format: G-XXXXXXXXXX)

  6. Configure key events: form submissions, phone click-to-calls, page views on contact page
  7. Link GA4 to Google Search Console
  8. Link GA4 to Google Ads (if running ads)
  9. Set up a monthly traffic report (automated email)

The website just needs to communicate that authority to search engines and AI systems. Once the technical foundation is in place and content starts flowing, the brand's real-world reputation will amplify the SEO results.
