I started to paint last winter, I was inspired by the incredible shared artist studio at the Cotton Factory in Hamilton. I was hanging out with a super energetic youngin’ named Jess Bomarito. Jess opened the Groundswell Co-Working in Simcoe and we did a little research together by visiting other established Co-Working spaces.
The day Jess and I opened up the big door and walked into the studio I gasped in awe of the space and the art, it took me right back to the teenage days when I dreamed of being a real artist.
Shortly after that, Jess told me about another incredible woman named Suzanne Coverlett Earls who was opening a mosaic studio in downtown Simcoe called Pieceful Arts. WOW! As soon as I could get into Suzanne’s studio I went and Suzanne has become a really big part of this new chapter in my life. Suzanne has created a bright and airy space where she welcomes people who are just thinking about creating to seasoned pros like herself. Suzanne in an incredibly talented mosaic artist and painter. I have taken several formal workshops with Suzanne and I have dropped into many of her Tuesday morning “pay what you can painting” opportunities. I was already totally digging Suzanne and then I found out that she is also an animal portraitist!! Suzanne has taught me so much and encouraged me so much, I love, love, love the opportunity that I have to learn from Suzanne.
Suzanne sent me over to the Capitol Arts Market where I discovered an upcoming art show, the Square Foot Show and I declared that I would enter a painting. I was thinking that if I was going to have my art hanging on a wall in a public place it would absolutely have to be a bulldog painting so that is what I painted and entered!
